 The Firetide HotPort
High Performance Mesh Network provides a high capacity, self-healing
wireless mesh backbone for outdoor and indoor networks. Designed for
maximum performance, scalability, and ease of use, the HotPort mesh
network works seamlessly between indoor and outdoor environments and can
operate in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrums. The HotPort system enables
multiple network services and standard Ethernet devices to operate on
the wireless backbone creating secure and reliable wireless networks for
video, voice and data. The HotPort family includes a multi-port 10/100
Ethernet switch for each node, VLAN capability, traffic prioritization,
and remote managementles.
HotPort 3100
Series Indoor Mesh Nodes

HotPort 3100 series indoor mesh
nodes provide scalable, high performance mesh networking for indoor
voice, video and data applications. These plenum-rated units feature a
built-in four port 10/100 Ethernet switch, a dual spectrum radio, and
two omni-directional antennas. They operate at either 2.4 GHz for high
capacity and maximum range or at 5 GHz for high capacity and minimal
interference from 2.4 GHz devices. The HotPort 3100 series provides VLAN
capability, traffic prioritization, and remote management, and they can
interoperate with HotPort 3203 outdoor mesh nodes for seamless
indoor-to-outdoor mesh networking. Each unit can mount securely to a
wall, ceiling or countertop using an optional mounting bracket.
HotPort Indoor Mesh Nodes connect wirelessly to other indoor and outdoor
HotPort nodes to form a high performance wireless mesh network.
Available in 10 Mbps models for economical Wi-Fi applications and 25
Mbps models for maximum performance for video, voice and data, HotPort
indoor mesh nodes operate at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and include a built-in
four port 10/100 Ethernet switch and two omni-directional antennas.
HotPort 3100 series mesh nodes are available in all regions, while
HotPort 3500 series nodes, equipped with 400 mW radios, are available in
the US only.
HotPort 3200
Series Outdoor Mesh Nodes

HotPort 3200 series outdoor mesh
nodes provide high performance, high capacity mesh networking for
outdoor applications and extreme operating environments. They have
weatherproof enclosures and connect wirelessly to indoor and outdoor
HotPort nodes to form a high performance wireless mesh network for
video, voice and data. Outdoor nodes feature a built-in dual port 10/100
Ethernet switch, a dual spectrum radio, omni-directional antennas, and
support 802.3af Power over Ethernet. They can operate at 2.4 GHz for
maximum capacity and range, or at 5 GHz for maximum capacity and minimal
interference from 2.4 GHz devices. A removable sunshield and a mounting
bracket are provided with each weatherproof NEMA 4X enclosure. Options
include integrated backup battery, light pole power tap, and solar
powered subsystems.
HotPort 4.9 GHz Public Safety Mesh Nodes

HotPort 4.9 GHz Public Safety indoor and outdoor
nodes mesh nodes connect wirelessly to other HotPort nodes to form a
high performance wireless mesh network, ideal for broadband intra-agency
and multi-agency communications, including police, SWAT, National Guard,
fire, EMS, hospital, mass transit and utilities.
HotPort 3200/PS Outdoor Wireless Mesh Nodes are deployed on rooftops or
poles to create a jurisdictional network that provides constant wireless
communications. Seamless operation with HotPort 3100/PS Indoor Wireless
Mesh Nodes extends the mesh within buildings and onto moving vehicles.
HotPort 3100/PS Indoor Wireless Mesh Nodes are
installed in vehicles or in mobile command centers to provide ad hoc
wireless communications at an incident area.
HotPort 4.9 GHz Public Safety indoor and outdoor nodes are available
only in the US, where the 4.940 to 4.990 GHz spectrum has been allocated
for exclusive use by public safety agencies.

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS
Case Studies & White Papers
The advent of broadband wireless networking has made it easier and
less expensive to provide "triple play" data, voice and video
communications throughout an entire metropolitan or rural area. Wireless
mesh networking in particular holds the greatest promise owing to its
superior scalability, reliability, and ease of deployment and operation
over other wireless technologies.
The HotPort High Performance Mesh Network has been designed to meet the
many demanding requirements of large-scale metro area applications. The
use of dual spectrum radios operating at unlicensed frequencies
minimizes radio interference to expand coverage without sacrificing
performance. (The HotPort Public Safety High Performance Mesh Network
operates in the U.S.-licensed 4.9 GHz spectrum.) The AutoMesh protocol
allows the mesh to form automatically, and overcomes line-of-sight
barriers that can cripple other wireless solutions. Seamless operation
outdoors and indoors allows the network to extend into public
facilities, such as administrative buildings, stadiums and convention
centers. And where wiring does exist, the EthernetDirect feature allows
for use of a full-duplex 10/100 Mbps link to enhance performance even
further

Firetide Advantages
Eliminates the need to install, maintain, and sometimes re-pull or
relocate costly network cabling, or utilize expensive leased line
services. Which means no more trenching - ever!
Operates seamlessly indoors and outdoors in office buildings and wide
open spaces, including parks, atriums, government or commercial
facilities, downtown centers, business districts, bus stops, train
stations, and more.
Minimizes interference with Wi-Fi access points and overcomes
line-of-sight obstacles to provide maximum deployment flexibility when
used in large-scale applications.
Delivers high performance with traffic prioritization to handle
data/Internet access, voice over IP (VoIP) communications, and video
monitoring or surveillance applications - all simultaneously and
securely.
Provides industry-leading low total cost of ownership (TCO) based on
a relatively modest capital expenditure and minimal on-going operational
expenditures.

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS
Construction
The temporary and constantly changing nature of construction sites
creates special challenges not found in other networking applications.
The site itself transforms daily. The workers even change from day to
day as phases get completed and different subcontractors come and go.
Construction sites also have a high incidence of theft and vandalism.
Tools and building materials disappear, and equipment is damaged or
sabotaged. These and other unique characteristics create a need for
flexible information access and security monitoring.
The variety of different construction environments from the highway to
the high-rise all have at least one thing in common: it has been
impractical or impossible to use traditional wired network solutions.
Where cabling has been installed, its deployment has proven to be
disruptive, expensive, inflexible and prone to damage.
With a Firetide HotPortTM high performance mesh network, you can easily
and cost-effectively install, change, move and remove a site-wide voice,
video and data communications network. Because the mesh network
functions as a virtual Ethernet switch, you can readily connect wireless
access points, video security cameras, field office networks, gateways
to the Internet or other networks, and more. And because the mesh is
self-configuring and self-managing, there is no need for an on-site
network administrator.
HotPort wireless mesh nodes can be installed indoors or outdoors or
both. Indoor installations, which require only AC power, typically
include both office trailers and any buildings under construction.
Outdoors, their extended range, battery/solar power options and
weatherproof enclosures make the deployment as versatile as it is
dependable. You install and reconfigure a HotPort mesh network simply by
adding, relocating, or removing HotPort nodes. This same
self-configuring intelligence also allows any HotPort node to become
mobile on a vehicle or crane, for example. And once the building project
is complete, you can simply unplug the HotPort nodes and take them to
the next job site.
