HotPort 3100
Indoor Wireless Mesh Nodes are part of Firetide's
industry-leading HotPort High Performance Mesh Network that provides
broadband wireless video, voice and data communications indoors and
outdoors in campuses or entire metropolitan areas. The HotPort indoor
nodes can be mounted on or walls and ceilings or hung from cubicle
walls, and they are UL2043 plenum-rated, making them suitable for
placement in a plenum air space. Each indoor unit has a built-in 4-port
10/100 Ethernet switch. All HotPort nodes feature a dual spectrum radio
for operation at 2.4 GHz for maximum range or at 5 GHz for minimum
interference with wireless LANs. The HotPort 3101 model provides up to
10 Mbps throughput; the HotPort 3103 model provides up to 25 Mbps
throughput, and includes support for the full HotView feature set.
Seamless operation with HotPort 3200 Series Outdoor Wireless Mesh Nodes
extends the mesh between or among buildings and, potentially, onto
moving vehicles.
HotPort 3100 Indoor Wireless Mesh Node
Feature Set:
The many features of the HotPort 3100 Series Indoor Wireless Mesh Nodes
provide a wealth of customer benefits that, together with the HotPort
3200 series outdoor mesh nodes and HotView or HotView Pro Mesh
Management Software, make a HotPort High Performance Mesh Network ideal
for many connectivity and access applications. Below are highlights of
the key features, details of which are available separately in the
product datasheets and documentation.
HotPort Indoor Mesh Nodes connect wirelessly to other indoor and outdoor
HotPort nodes to form a high performance wireless mesh network.
Available in 10 Mbps models for economical Wi-Fi applications and 25
Mbps models for maximum performance for video, voice and data, HotPort
indoor mesh nodes operate at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and include a built-in
four port 10/100 Ethernet switch and two omni-directional antennas.
HotPort 3100 series mesh nodes are available in all regions, while
HotPort 3500 series nodes, equipped with 400 mW radios, are available in
the US only.
-
Spectrum
Flexibility
- HotPort mesh nodes operate in the unlicensed spectrum at 2.4 GHz
or 5 GHz. With judicious frequency and channel selection, you can
deploy multiple mesh networks in close proximity.
-
Built-in 4-port Ethernet Switch -
Four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
ports can be used to connect equipment (access points, digital video
cameras, IP phones, PCs and printers) or to interface with other
networks.
-
Network Gateway Interconnect -
Any node can interface
with another LAN, MAN or WAN as an NGI. Multiple NGIs connected to
the same network, such as the Internet, offer enhanced redundancy
(with load-balancing and automatic failover) and improved
throughput.
- MeshBridgeTM -
MeshBridge feature enables internetworking among
multiple HotPort mesh networks to form a single LAN or WAN
environment with up to 1,000 mesh nodes, enhancing throughput and
simplifying management of large-scale networks.
- SNMP Management and
Web-based Client - SNMP Management allows
you to integrate management of HotPort network into a network
management system such as HP OpenView or IBM NetView. Web-based
Client provides connection to HotView Pro Server through a web
browser, eliminating the need to run a separate client application.
- Class of Service - Three levels
of CoS allow you to prioritize traffic to improve mesh performance,
especially in "triple play" data, voice and video applications.
- Virtual LANs -
Traffic segmentation affords greater privacy, and
enhances mesh performance and scalability by allowing traffic to be
directed along specific VLAN routes.
Traffic Encryption -
128- or 256-bit Advanced
Encryption Standard provision ensures security of the HotPort mesh.
External encryption, such as with a virtual private network (VPN),
is preserved as traffic traverses the mesh network.
-
Mesh Management Software -
Each HotPort node includes HotView mesh management software for
basic mesh configuration and monitoring. Optional HotView Pro
software enables control of large mesh environments and multiple
networks. MultiMesh, SNMP Management, Web-based Client and
MeshBridge features are supported only by HotView Pro.

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS
Construction
The temporary and constantly changing nature of construction sites
creates special challenges not found in other networking applications.
The site itself transforms daily. The workers even change from day to
day as phases get completed and different subcontractors come and go.
Construction sites also have a high incidence of theft and vandalism.
Tools and building materials disappear, and equipment is damaged or
sabotaged. These and other unique characteristics create a need for
flexible information access and security monitoring.
The variety of different construction environments from the highway to
the high-rise all have at least one thing in common: it has been
impractical or impossible to use traditional wired network solutions.
Where cabling has been installed, its deployment has proven to be
disruptive, expensive, inflexible and prone to damage.
With a Firetide HotPortTM high performance mesh network, you can easily
and cost-effectively install, change, move and remove a site-wide voice,
video and data communications network. Because the mesh network
functions as a virtual Ethernet switch, you can readily connect wireless
access points, video security cameras, field office networks, gateways
to the Internet or other networks, and more. And because the mesh is
self-configuring and self-managing, there is no need for an on-site
network administrator.
HotPort wireless mesh nodes can be installed indoors or outdoors or
both. Indoor installations, which require only AC power, typically
include both office trailers and any buildings under construction.
Outdoors, their extended range, battery/solar power options and
weatherproof enclosures make the deployment as versatile as it is
dependable. You install and reconfigure a HotPort mesh network simply by
adding, relocating, or removing HotPort nodes. This same
self-configuring intelligence also allows any HotPort node to become
mobile on a vehicle or crane, for example. And once the building project
is complete, you can simply unplug the HotPort nodes and take them to
the next job site.
